The first planned Anglesey event was abandoned after a few runs of first practice in appalling rain.
The whole Kirkistown was notified as being cancelled, upon our return home from Anglesey.
This now means that, there will now be 12 qualifying events, and 8 rounds to count.
He's on the same points at halfway as Phil Lynch, but he's now got to grips with a large engined car (after a "trying" 2007) and is a regular solid points finisher. It seems his nemesis is now 18 year old Heather Calder and she and Phil seemed to be bits of a second apart whenever they're out. Now Heather has her exams behind her a solid season ending burst can be expected. This should probably enable her to get back into the Top 12, with a permanent number likely by season end. Heather's father Colin is in his second season in the car but competed at home in 2007 and is enjoying the nature of the venues on offer in the 2008 SBD Motorsport British Sprint Championship, as is Heather. He will doubtless have a campaign mapped out on his calendar to ensure he finishes with a number by season end. Bill Oliver so often foregoes his runs in favour of son Matt and whilst at the bottom end of the Top 12 at halfway is more than capable of good points finishes to keep a number into 2009.
Father and son Pillinger (Dave and Scott) are rarely far apart (and are dominating the 2008 Foundation Cup between them). In an adventurous season for the pair Scott is just inside and Dave just outside the Top 12. At the lower reaches, just outside the Top 12, are Simon Bainbridge in his Audi TT in his debut year in the Championship. Jonathan Toulmin is enjoying the challenges of the venues visited in his 1100cc Marengo 2 and loves his Sprinting (and the Co-ordinator and the remainder of the paddock enjoy wife Pat's Guinness cake too!) Championship sponsor Steve Broughton has just got his new car out which benefits from "Jade" input into his fundamentally OMS chassis and is steadily sorting it and the regular engine and electronic mods that Steve brings to the product. Will he do enough events to get a number back by the end of 2008? Then there are a few imponderables will the Devon pair of David Sims and Des Stephenson do enough and acquire enough points to squeak into the Final 12? First round winner Steve Miles is in the Top 12 now, can he stay there, new tyres seem to be on the shopping list for the second half. Then there's Dan Pickett, who's suffered a year from hell competition-wise. However the rebuilt car should make the season closers and who knows what he might achieve?
Finally there, of course, remains one further joker - Cadwell Park the season closer. Why so? Because it counts as a double points round for the British, Foundation Cup and Category Awards - that should set a few calculators fluttering!
Angus Buchan is leading, as the half way point of the season passes. He has three scores with one still to come. Pressing him hard is Formula Fordster Tony Jarvis who has two excellent scores in the bag and two more events still to score. Things are looking ominous for the oppostion. Father and son Peter & Tim Tudor, in their first season with a one litre engine in the family Force, are tussling over the remaining podium sport at the moment. However the remaining runners have yet to open their campaign or have only one score on the board. This year this could go down to the final round.
We are happy to announce that we do not anticipate making any significant changes for 2009. We feel that what we are offering is just about right and we can see no obvious improvements that are necessary. We shall do all that we can to maintain all the best venues in the calendar, appropriate for a British Sprint Championship.
The BMSA has prepared an history of the British Sprint Championship since its inception in 1970.
The results of our research are published in the "History" section of this website
It appears that 412 events have formed part of the Championships since the beginning and we are presently searching for complete results (which are presently missing or incomplete)for the elusive 18 of these to enable us to finalise the results and points tables for all years to date. The end results will appear on this website (hopefully shortly)
There have been many who have contributed to our success but particular thanks must go to Jonty Williamson, Alan Richard and Mark Joseland for the information they have provided. Others contributing have included Nick Harrison, Steve Muir, Stuart Watts, Peter Riley and, of course, Paul Sheldon
