The single lap event was soon underway after the 2 lap run-off. The organisers soon got into their stride and with all the problems of yesterday behind them ran a super meeting. With no Roy Dawson the big question was would Matt Oliver win over the shorter course or could Dan Pickett fight back?
The timed runs once again got underway with the Road Saloons and David West once again took the 1400 class. With no Elise to worry about David Marshall ran out the winner from Paul Waters whilst Neil Watkins took third. Matt Oakley once again took the over two litre class whilst Andrew Meek was the Top Turbo. In repeats of the previous day's Kit Car classes David Hussey and Matt Hillam led the same contenders home. Martin Depper again was too fast for the 1400 Mod Prod opposition whilst Paul Perkin was a similarly impressive 2 litre winner. The Mod Prod Kit Car classes went the same way again as Martin Perry and John Tomlinson cruised to their customary class wins.
In Sport Libre David Watson took the up to 1700 class from Steve Wilkinson's historic Elan whilst in the over 1700 class Steve Broughton & Peter Hayter repeated their 1-2 from the day before. Into the Racing Car classes and in the 1100s Jonathan Toulmin was again top dog with Henryk Kozlowski taking second ahead of Tom and Andy Potter. In the Formula Fords the positions from Saturday were reversed as tony Jarvis, who prefers shorter courses, took the win from Iain Houston and Martin Webb. With no Nick Algar and Dave Pillinger swapping the race track for a day on the beach the class was left to Scott Pillinger to wrap up as once again Darren Underwood struggled with his under-geared OMS. The two litre class once again was dominated by Mark Smith and Orville. He finished nearly two seconds clear of Steve Miles and David Sims. Several of the over two litre runners limited their track time to conserve their cars. Matt Oliver ran out the class winner from Dan Pickett and Bill Oliver whilst Phil Lynch and John Payne came home in fourth and fifth but suffered with a sever misfire that ended their day.
In the Classic Cars Mark Jago again ran out the winner whilst it was Mansell and Millar in the Rally Car Class who again battled it out. They miraculously recorded identical best times however on count back Mansell just pipped Millar. In the Lotus 7 Club class Simon Rogers and Mark Durrant took the 1-2 ahead of Grigsby.
TOP TWELVE RUN-OFF
Once again we didn't have a full complement for the run-off as Phil Lynch withdrew. First to the line was Bill Oliver and he was ahead of his Q-time with a 43.99. Then Tom Potter put in a steady run splitting his two qualifying times. Henryk Kozlowski was marginally quicker than his Q-time to keep ahead of young Tom. Scotty Pillinger, in his first run-off for 4 years, was another to fail to beat his Q-time and duly fell back. Kevin Lealan clipped a few more tenths off his Q-time to move in behind Bill Oliver. David Sims took over a second off his Q-time to move ahead of Bill Oliver and take the lead, all be it for the moment. Jonathan Toulmin only just got inside his qualification standard in the Marengo to push David Sims back to second. Steve Miles only had to equal his Q-time to take the lead but he was again plagued with electrical problems as he staggered round some two and a half seconds off the required pace. Mark Smith was again pushing the limit as he clipped a couple of tenths of his best to date. Dan Pickett was a meagre five hundredths quicker than his Q-time and found himself behind Mark Smith. With just Matt Oliver to run we had a two-litre leading, could Matt fight through? The answer when it came was an emphatic yes. The GR37 slithered its way to yet another sub-41 second run to take a comfortable lead.
Again there looked likely to be a short delay whilst the GR37 cooled down but Bill Oliver sportingly declined his second run as it was going to take too long! This put Tom Potter in the hot seat and the youngster clipped nearly half a second off but failed to make an impact on the rankings. Henryk was slower as the tyres were 'going off' whilst Scotty Pillinger despite improving on his first run was well down on his qualifying pace. Kevin Lealan maintained his rate of improvement as another quarter of a second was clipped off as he moved up to sixth. David Sims took a big chunk off his time next as he clambered up the order to fourth. Jonathan Toulmin took three hundredths off his first run time but for a broken second gear it could have been more! Steve Miles had another disaster as the engine cut-out again and the Van Diemen coasted to a halt. Mark Smith then maintained the pressure with a further 0.15 coming off his time to consolidate second. Dan Pickett couldn't respond and had to settle for third place. Once again Matt Oliver had won but he still took his second run and clipped a further three tenths off his time.
The celebrations then started in earnest and Matt Oliver could reflect on a super week-end where he had not only broken his duck but also moved into contention for the championship; roll-on Anglesey.
